Professional Engineering Groups, Inc., are primarily Electrical Engineers with particular skills in new electrical systems construction and retrofit or electrical systems, with a diverse history of projects ranging from office facilities to large Telecommunication Network and Data Center Facilities. The following is a listing of engineering services offered to all their clients:

Lighting Design

Lighting Design is a natural part of the electrical engineering service. Professional Engineering Groups have several talented lighting designers/engineers.

Power Distribution

Power Distribution is a major emphasis for the Professional Engineering Groups. The Project Engineers have particular knowledge and expertise in providing redundant power paths to telephone power plants, computer distribution loads, environmental equipment, and others.

Uninterruptible Power Systems

Uninterruptible Power Systems: Professional Engineering Groups have designed systems which range from small self-contained units to large data center UPS systems using both rotary converters and static converters, Professional Engineering designed unique Ring Bus systems with capacities of up to 6000 KVA.

Power Generation and Standby Engine Systems

Power Generation and Standby Engine Systems:  Professional Engineering Groups have designed many various types and sizes of engine generator systems for standby power supply. The more complex systems consist of standalone engine generators and automatically paralleled engine generator systems.

Power and Alarm Monitoring and Direct Digital Control

Power and Alarm Monitoring and Direct Digital Control: Professional Engineering Groups' engineers have designed large PC, PLC, and proprietary based interactive graphics power monitoring and alarm systems which allow control, status, and event records of operations in complicated systems.

Grounding and Lighting Protection

Grounding and Lighting Protection: Professional Engineering Groups have been involved in proper application of grounding principles and practices since the 1960's. Our experienced engineers have been involved in many grounding reviews of all types of facilities including telecommunications equipment buildings and associated data buildings. A review of Grounding Practices for the AT&T Southern Region was performed in 1987 and 1998. With the advent of centralizing computer operations, Professional Engineering Groups engineers have applied modern ground practices in large computer buildings, including EMI shielding interfaces.

Building Review

Building Review: Professional Engineering Groups' engineers were involved in the original Building Electrical Design Reviews which began in 1979, by South Central Bell, which ultimately led to the Bell System Practice and AT&T Practice 154-002-004C Building Reviews. These reviews have given our engineers expertise in a very organized procedure which establishes the quality and condition of electrical systems in any type building.

Building Alarms

Building Alarms: Professional Engineering Groups' managers have experience in design of and interface to many different types of automated building alarm and management systems. Our engineers were actively involved in the development of the AT&T standard specification for Building Management Alarm Systems (BMAS) produced in 1993.

Fire Alarm Systems

Fire Alarms Systems: Our engineers have experience in the full range of systems from single zone protection to High-rise multiplexed systems with color graphics & touch screen interface with the capability to interface to DDC for activation of smoke control systems. Many recent designs have also included VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) for earliest detection of potential problems in critical equipment areas.

Security Systems

Security Systems: Security System modification or replacement is common to many projects. Design experience covers all aspects of these systems including: Fiber optic cabling, surveillance cameras, P/T/Z controllers, motion & door sensors, card readers, etc., as well as local and remote monitoring. Also, Professional Engineering Groups were actively involved in the development of the AT&T Standard Specification for Security Systems.

Short Circuit and Over-Current Device Coordination Studies

Short Circuit and Over-Current Device Coordination Studies: Professional Engineering Groups' engineers are familiar with the importance of design, using actual calculated short-circuit currents. As much as possible, the tripping of circuit breakers in case of fault is coordinated to only trip the breaker closest to the fault.  The State-of-the-Art DAPPER and CAPTOR (PTW) computer programs allow these complicated routines to be done efficiently.  Also, the PTW program is used to calculate load studies, voltage drop, voltage flow and network topologies.

Data and Communication Wiring

Data and Communication Wiring: Professional Engineering Groups offers the service of planning and designing of structural cabling systems for commercial and telecommunication buildings, including such systems as CAT5E wiring.
